Translation of Sharab Cheez hi Aisi Hai by Pankaj Udhas & Dr Anjum

Just wanted to pen this down today. There are two versions on Youtube. I have translated both of them.
-------------

Ale, you are such a thing;

You are such a thing - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

You are like my partner - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

Ale, you are such a thing.

You are such a thing - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

You are like my partner - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

Ale, you are such a thing…

I have seen every item in the world change..

I have seen every item in the world change..

But it is absolutely the same - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

But it is absolutely the same - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

You are like my partner - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

Ale, you are such a thing.

These heavy nights melt away because of it’s efforts..

These heavy nights melt away because of it’s efforts..

But it is like water - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

But it is like water - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

You are like my partner - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

Ale, you are such a thing.

It is the treatment for broken hearts, Anjum.

It is the treatment for broken hearts, Anjum.

It is the treatment for broken hearts, Anjum.

What should I tell you, how it is? CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

You are like my partner - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

Ale, you are such a thing. CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

Ale, you are such a thing. CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

Ale, you are such a thing. CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

---------------

Ale, you are such a thing;

Wherever you go but you come back here..

Wherever you go but you come back here..

Wherever you go but you come back here..

Wherever you go… but you come back here….

How is this road of my partner - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

How is this road of my partner - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

You are like my partner - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

Ale, you are such a thing.

The confusion of waiting always stuck onto me;

The confusion of waiting always stuck onto me...

The confusion of waiting always stuck onto me…

It is like your ‘locks’ - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

It is like your ‘locks’ - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

You are like my partner - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

Ale, you are such a thing.

How is this road of my partner - CAN’T LEAVE YOU!

Ale, you are such a thing. Ale, you are such a thing. Ale, you are such a thing.

Ale, you are such a thing.

Color Mixture

I was inspired by Istvan Orosz math poem here. So I thought of following his instructions and translating the same to Hindi.
It's lovely. You should read his concept about color mixing on his blog.

Gulzar

I'm happy that my favourite lyricist got an Oscar for "Jai Ho". :D So, I thought of translating my favourite song "Tujhse Naaraaz .." from the movie Masoom.

Here it goes..

I'm not displeased by you, O! Life, I'm perplexed!
I'm perplexed!
I'm worried by your innocent questions;
I'm worried!

I had never thought, I'd have to hold pain to live;
If I smile, I would have to get rid of a debt for that smile;
When I smile sometimes, I feel..
A debt on my lips.
I'm not....

If they got filled today, drops would pour down;
Who knows? Eyes may yearn for them tomorrow.
Don't know where it got lost, disappeared whither?
I had hidden a tear.
I'm not....

O Life! Your sorrows have made me understand new relations;
What we get! We get cold shadows under sun.
I'm not....

[I have written about him earlier too.]

Inevitability

This is the translation of the chorus part of a famous Bollywood song.

Death - It is required for living
Death - What kind of dependency has it become?
Death - Time stops when it comes
Death - Takes the breath away in her arms
Death - Only the path changes
Death - A new era begins
Death - Thats when you understand the give and take
Death - You get a fountain of earnings

Life! What a riddle?

My name is Anand and I am a very big fan of the movie ANAND.
I have written about the movie earlier also. You can find it here.
So, I wrote translation of another song of this movie. Though the translation
is not so good still it conveys what it is supposed to.

Life! What a riddle?
She makes you laugh sometimes, and sometimes you cry.

Sometimes you see - your heart remains numb.
It keeps following the dreams;
But one day this traveler of dreams,
Goes beyond the dreams somewhere.
Life! What a riddle?

People have adorned familial ties;
They bore the highs and lows of the life together,
One day they choose silence,
And head towards some place all alone.

Life! What a riddle?

Death - you are a poem

This small poem is the part of the movie Anand.
This movie is among the top three favourite movies
I have ever seen.
So here goes the poem (in Hindi) -

maut tu ek kavitaa hai .
mujhse ek kavitaa kaa vaadaa hai milegii mujhko...

Duubatii nabzon mein jab dard ko neend aane lage
zard(yellow/pale) saa chehra liye chaaNd ufak(horizon/zenith) tak pahunche
din abhii paanii mein ho raat kinaare ke kariib
na abhii andheraa ho na ujaalaa ho
na raat na din
jism jab khatm ho aur ruuh ko saa.Ns aaye

mujhse ek kavitaa kaa vaadaa hai milegii mujhko..

Here goes the English Version

Death - you are a poem,
I have been promised by a poem; She'll come to me.

When pain starts to sleep in the dying pulses,
The moon reaches the horizon possessing a pale yellow face;
At this instant, the day is in the waters; the night near the bank,
It's neither dark nor light,
Neither day nor night;
When the body begins to die and the soul starts to breathe.

I have been promised by a poem; She'll come to me.

I found some interesting posts on this poem.

Translation of 'Main Shayar Badnaam'

I, the infamous poet, I.. bid goodbye..
A failure in the concert; I.. bid goodbye..
I, the infamous poet, I.. bid goodbye..

You'll find some things from my home,
You'll get a couch book of poetry belonging to a crazy poet,
You'll get one more thing,
A broken empty wine glass; I.. bid goodbye..
I, the infamous poet.

I had to walk on the flames,
I had to sleep on the thorns,
And I had to cry my heart out over my destiny,
Don't know how many such kinds,
I left the remaining work; I.. move on..
I, the infamous poet.

The road is stopping me,
Dregs of life is left,
Don't know what desires remain in my broken heart,
Oh..Leave it my heart.
I salute everybody and I.. bid goodbye..

I, the infamous poet, I.. bid goodbye..
A failure in the concert; I.. bid goodbye..

A translation but thought provoking

This is an excerpt from a famous Hindi song in the movie
"Mukaddar ka Sikandar". The following four lines relate
very much to my first post in this blog.

"zindagii to bevafaa hai ek din Thukaraaegii
maut mahabuubaa hai apane saath lekar jaaegii
mar ke jiine kii adaa jo duniyaa ko sikhalaaegaa
vo muqaddar kaa sikandar...

rote hue aate hai.n sab, ha.nsataa huaa jo jaaegaa
vo muqaddar kaa sikandar jaaneman kahalaaegaa"

I have taken this lyrics from this site.
This movie was a Bollywood Blockbuster. The cast included
Amitabh Bachchan. The lyrics had been written by Anjaan.

"Life is so unfaithful, she will ditch you some time
Death is your beloved, she will take you with her
The one who teaches the style of living even after death,
will be entitled as the Alexander of kismet (luck).

Everyone comes crying into this world, the one who goes smiling,
will be entitled as the Alexander of kismet (luck)."

Note: Kismet is a valid English word

Eyes will cheat you - A song of Hindi movie OMKARA translated to English

Eyes will cheat you

Don't trust the eyes
Don't hear to what the eyes say
Eyes will cheat you.

They will blow magic on this world;
Sound sleeps would turn into barren nights,
Eyes will cheat you.

They don't care about innocence; neither kins nor strangers,
Eyes have passion for biting and smiting,
The venom of eyes is intoxicating;
They seed the rainbow in the clouds,
& it rains till dawn.
Eyes will turn you crazy,
Eyes will cheat you.

Eyes will take you to heavens at night,
They give dreams of clouds and rains; show greenery,
I cannot trust the speech of the eyes.
They read and write without receipt or book,
All the talks have gone over my mind.

It rains without clouds
& there are clouds without rains.
Eyes will cheat you.

They will blow magic on this world;
Sound sleeps would turn into barren nights,
Eyes will cheat you.

Don't trust the eyes
Don't hear to what the eyes say
Eyes will cheat you.

This is the English translation of a Hindi song
sung in the movie Omkara, directed by Vishal Bharadwaj.
This song has been sung by Vishal Bharadwaj himself
and it is sung in Indian classical genre.
The song has been written by a phenomenal lyricist GULZAR.
The movie is based on William Shakespeare's OTHELLO.
I love the meaning of the song and wrote the English
version so that more and more people can enjoy it.
If you get a chance to hear it, do it. It's awesome.

Check out the Omkara site for more.
